Tour Description
This tour has been specifically designed so that we can explore temples away from the huge crowds that visit the Angkor complex each day. If you’re looking for a peaceful and calm way to see the temples in Cambodia, then this is the tour for you.
Day 1
We will come and get you from your hotel after you’ve eaten breakfast at approximately 8am. We’ll head over to Preah Khan, a 12th century temple located in the northeast side of Angkor Thom. We will then go to the secret temple called Banteay Prei. Only a few tourists visit this temple and we can explore in peace and quiet.
We’ll also see East Mebon which was built in the 10th century on an artificial island. After this, we’ll head over to Banteay Samre, an early 12th century Hindu temple.
Completing the tour, we’ll go to Prasat Bat Chum which is a small Buddhist temple just a few hundred meters south of Srah Srang. Finally, we’ll go to visit the early 10th century temple called Prasat Kravan. This temple was dedicated to Vishnu and is surrounded by a small moat.
Day 2
We will come and pick you up early in the morning at 4:30 – 5am, depending on the time of year. We will then take the short journey out to Angkor Wat and watch the sun rise over the majestic temple. After the sunrise, we will explore Angkor Wat temple and I will explain the history and architecture to you.
After Angkor Wat, we’ll head over to Ta Prohm. This temple was built in the Bayon style in the late 12th and early 13th century. Ta Prohm was originally built as a Buddhist monastery and university. One of the unique features of Ta Prohm is that it has largely been left to the jungle and the trees are literally growing right through the middle of the temple. Ta Prohm is one of the most popular temples in Siem Reap as it was used as the location for the Tomb Raider movie featuring Angelina Jolie.
We will then head over to Prasat Banteay Kdei which means “A Citadel of Chambers” in English. This Buddhist temple was again built in the late 12th and early 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. The temple is currently undergoing restoration, but is still open to visitors.
In the afternoon is Angkor Thom, the ancient capital city of the Khmer Empire. Here we can see lots of things including the Royal Palace, the Terrace of the8 Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper King, Bayon temple, and more.
Finally, we’ll head over to the South Gate of Angkor Thom to watch the beautiful sunset over the moat before taking you safely back to your hotel.
